The Four P's of Success
|
| |
Below I will give examples of what I mean by the "Four P's of Successful Pay Per Click". These are Presentation, Position, Pricing, and Product (and I'd add a 5th, Personal bid manager!)
PRESENTATION Why would you want to pay money for people to click to your website if your website does not effectively present your products or service? They will click right off your site and on to another, and you've wasted that click. Before embarking on PayPerClick marketing, make sure your site is ready. Also make sure the method for your viewer to contact you is easily seen. If you are starting on a low budget, and cannot afford a professionally designed site, at least make sure the content is clear and appealing on the site you have designed for yourself. Ask: Does it explain what we do or sell? Does it inspire confidence? Does it provide suitable information? Does it make contact easy?
Good presentation also includes the ad written for search results. Does it specifically explain what the product or service is so searchers clicking on the site will find what they are seeking? (If not, you've wasted the cost of a click.) Is the grammer correct? Is spelling correct? Does it attract the searcher's attention? All of these are a part of what we focus on as personal bid managers.

POSITION
|
| |
On Google and Yahoo, regular search results can show millions of websites. Very few people move beyond the first page. Statistics show that on Pay Per Click, the #1 position receives 2 1/2 times more clicks than the #2 position, which receives 2 times the clicks of the #3, and so forth. If a keyword has very large numbers of searches (we have these statistics), it is possible to bid lower and still receive clicks; however, if the number of searches is under 500 a month, it is important to show up in the top 5 positions. Sometimes the bidding is prohibitive due to competitors with large marketing budgets paying $2.00 and more per click for the top positions. There are strategies to make it work, and we constantly are seeking alternative keywords that provide the same results at lower bid prices. With some products, being in 1st position is NOT good...as most will click on it, but work their way down the list to make comparisons...and forget about returning.

PRICING
|
| |
When you are selling specific products on your website, instead of a service, it is essential to have competitively priced products in order to make Pay Per Click marketing work for you. People buying through the internet are nearly always making price comparisons when visiting the websites. You will waste the cost of the click if they find other similar products offered for less elsewhere.
If your price is in the ball park of your on-line competition, then it is important to find ways to set yourself apart! What kind of service do you offer? Do you provide free shipping? Do you have specials? Have you been in business 20 years? These will make the difference between success and failure. You must present these special features where they will easily see them. I will repeat again... you do not want to pay bring people to your website, if you do not offer what they want.
If you offer a service instead of a product, then the equivalent to price would be how you present your service and the benefits to the searcher. No need to exaggerate. Be truthful about what you will and will not do, but don't assume they already know what services you will provide.

PRODUCT
|
| |
The actual product or service you offer makes a huge difference in how successfully pay per click can work for you. Highly profitable, but competitive, business products often have highly competitive bidding prices. One can easily spend thousands of dollars a month, with relative limited results due to the high competition, if strategies are not in place.
On the other hand there is still a gold mine out there for businesses with a fairly unique product or service, as the competition remains relatively light.
Google and Overture/Yahoo now offer FREE conversion counting along with pay per click. We help you set this up. It involves pasting an HTML code to your webpage showing an action completed by the viewer, such as contacting you, or completing a sale. These then show up on the account, giving us an idea of which keywords are profitable and which are not so we can make corresponding adjustments.
